Since 2015, South Pacific Steel has been committed to delivering the highest quality steel products in Vanuatu — through cyclones, growth, and every roof we build.
South Pacific Steel was founded in 2015 in Port Vila, Vanuatu — starting as a modest steel trading operation with just a small team and a single shipping container. In a year when Cyclone Pam devastated the nation, we saw first-hand how critical quality building materials are to the resilience of Pacific Island communities. That conviction has driven every decision we've made since.
From day one, we made a deliberate choice: only source from China's top-tier steel mills — Baosteel and Masteel — when competitors opted for cheaper alternatives. This commitment to premium raw materials means our roofing sheets, wall cladding, and steel components consistently outperform rivals in corrosion resistance, color retention, and structural integrity. In Vanuatu's harsh tropical climate with salt air, extreme UV, and cyclone-force winds, this quality difference isn't a luxury — it's a necessity.
As the business grew, so did our responsibility to the local community. We have trained and employed dozens of ni-Vanuatu workers in steel processing, machine operation, and quality control — building a skilled local workforce where none existed before. Many of our senior technicians started as apprentices in our Tagabe facility and have grown into industry professionals.
When disaster strikes, South Pacific Steel stands with the nation. During Cyclone Harold (2020) and subsequent tropical storms, we worked around the clock alongside government agencies to supply emergency roofing materials for damaged homes, schools, and public buildings — often at cost or donated outright. Our rapid response capability and strategic inventory reserves have made us a key partner in Vanuatu's national disaster recovery efforts.
Today, South Pacific Steel has evolved into a full-service steel processing and distribution company, offering everything from roofing and structural steel to aluminum windows, cement, and solar systems. But no matter how much we grow, the principle remains the same: the highest quality, built for the Pacific, by people who call it home.
